Muse

Muse

I knew of this band before, just by name and reputation, but hadn’t actually heard their songs. I dont know why, but it never quite worked its way into my listening list. I recently listened to the album Black holes and Revelations… and I have to say that its pretty much blown me away. Musically speaking the guys are quite amazing. The keyboardist and Bassist lock in fantastically, and the drums complement them beautifully. Yes, the rhythm section rocks, and as we all know, that is the most important thing for any band. Get a decent backing, and the overlay is just GOING to work. The broken chords mixed with the mellow and ecstatic guitar coupled with intelligent and intuitive key changes bring out the passion this band have for music at the most basic of levels. The melancholic singing reminds me somewhat of Radiohead, though the whole thing is much more upbeat and more accessible than any of the recent stuff Radiohead have done.

This is music that has to be listened to at a high volume. I cant imagine anyone listening to this without really feeling it, and getting it in to their head. It isnt ear candy, and, although it is played as muzak on some shop floors, really, it loses all passion and intensity. Just a word to anyone who happens to put music in lifts. DONT DO IT. This is heavy rocking stuff and you’ll find yourself head bobbing on the tube on the way to work, looking like an idiot, and really not caring in the slightest.

If you listen to it as you run, Muse definitely makes you run faster. Its like listening to your own dark, vicious film in the back of your head. The only minor issue may be that you run like an idiot and start trying to do parkour, such as in James Bond, the Bourne trilogy, or in Mirrors Edge on the Xbox, and halfway through a really complex trick, realise that, in fact, you have been confined to an armchair for the past few months, and really, your body is not quite up to it, and you end up flat on your face.

Such is the power of Muse.

Enigin stuff
So muse aside for a moment, I’ve been reading about these Enigin guys on a few blogs recently. They seem pretty down the line so far - I really like the idea of making saving the earth through energy a thing that is money related rather than do good related as it were. Here is an Enigin thing by one of the people that actually work there. If any of you have any thoughts or know anyone who works with them - shout me!
