Have you ever heard of a band called, ‘The Disposable Heroes of Hiphoprisy’? If you haven’t then I am not surprised. They only recorded one album together and it has been sadly overlooked since then.
The group consisted of two very talented individuals; Rono Tse and Michael Franti. Their songs were full of social commentary and they chose many interesting subjects to write about.
Okay, so up to now they do not sound that different… but the thing is that they used some rather strange items to create really cool sounds. Angle grinders, sheet metal and tire rims all feature on their album and it gives the music a very unusual feel.
Michael Franti (lead singer of the duo) has a great voice and his lyrics are absolute poetry. He juggles words and phrases with great dexterity and there is a hell of a lot of truth in what he has to say.
‘Hypocrisy is the Greatest Luxury’ was released in 1992 but it has not dated at all; it could quite easily have come out a couple of weeks ago. The songs deal with all kinds of things including; the dangers of too much television, pollution, racism, bullying, fashion and the Iraq war. I cannot think of any other band who could manage to take such difficult topics and turn them into songs that are so well written, brilliantly performed, deeply thoughtful and full of wisdom.
The most famous single from the album was, ‘Television, the Drug of the Nation’. If you hear this then you will know exactly what to expect from the other twelve tracks. For anyone who likes singers that have a bit of intelligence The Disposable Heroes are a must. This album will make you laugh, make you think and make you tap your feet.

In other news, as most of you know it was this past weekend that we moved down south, and I cannot even begin to tell you what a disaster it truly was. Other then the small tempest when we were loading the truck, half of my things being forgotten at the old flat, and the loss of just about all the stainless steel bolts for my flat pack furniture, it was delightful! Oh well, the point is that it is done now, Jack and Abigayle I can’t begin to thank you enough for all the help.
