Glass was likely first produced by the Egyptian civilization. They would have created silica from flint, quartz and sand and mixed that with potash. These threads of the molten glass would then be wound around a clay center or flattened down. This would provide a sharp edge for a tool, or a dangerous sharp point for an arrowhead. There are more irregular and unpredictable methods of creating glass which have been occurring for millions of year.
